About Sheila HopeSheila studied Architecture and Interior Design in Melbourne, Australia and at Bournemouth College of Art. During a career in design, drawing and painting have been the most important elements of her creative life. An instinctive painter moving towards even more abstract thoughts of things observed, experienced, ideas and words recreated in paintings best described as contemporary with a measure of drama, mystery and sensitivity. Distance from immediate reality is the key, an unpredictable and exciting creative process.

Time spent living in Australia, a life absorbing a vast and wondrous land, still remains a strong influence - broad landscapes, horizons, coastlines and oceans often observed from an elevated viewpoint. Other mixed media work includes landscapes and coastal images of Hampshire and Dorset including the 'mystery of night' paintings. Plant forms and figure drawings in graphite and a recent return to the joy of using pure watercolour on a large scale. Theatrical paintings following many hours spent with the English National Ballet, a more conceptual approach from beyond the obvious towards the abstract.
